How Sleeps The Beast (2025) - Installed at NSCAD University’s Academy Campus in Spring 2025
“How Sleeps The Beast” is a video piece that explores Afro-centric and Black dance through archival footage, navigating themes of meme culture, media misrepresentation, and modern minstrelsy.
This work interrogates how Black dance is consumed and decontextualized in physical spaces, as well as digital spaces. By reconfiguring found images and footage, this piece aims to disrupt familiar narratives, revealing the tension between celebration and exploitation, performance and parody.
